Bekins Moving and Storage has been moving families in the Parksville and Mid Island area for years. Bekins Moving & Storage and United Van Lines have an EXCELLENT REPUTATION in the moving industry. The fact that United Van Lines is owned by it’s member companies, and it’s emphasis on member participation in how the van line is run, and our commitment to the people who work for us, has made United the largest van line in Canada and the only Canadian owned van line. Before they are awarded membership in United, members are carefully screened and thoroughly evaluated to make sure they have the necessary experience, ability, reliability and attitude to handle your move. At Bekins Moving and Storage and United Van Lines, we believe satisfied employees will ensure satisfied customers. We’re committed to enhancing our employees’ ongoing development and job satisfaction. Specialized training ensures that our people stay motivated and interested in the work they do.

Canadian Electric Vehicles – May 2018

Tell us about your business/organization and what makes you stand out as an employer?

Canadian Electric Vehicles is Vancouver Island’s only Transport Canada certified vehicle manufacturer and one of only a few in BC. We employ a small but skilled team that hand build the frames, cabs, pickup box and wiring systems from the ground up. The quality of the finished product is praised by our customers across North America. We are proud to build all-electric vehicles that our customers choose over gasoline or diesel vehicles reducing greenhouse gasses and reducing operating costs.

How many employees do you have?

We have 6 full time employees and 1 part time contractor on staff.  We are growing and as a result we are currently hiring for mechanics, assemblers and fabricators.

What do you look for in a new employee?

We are interested in anyone who has an aptitude for tinkering with mechanical things or has solid computer skills. We are willing to train so you don’t need to have a lot of experience specifically in the field. If you like to do engine swaps in the driveway, wrench on your 4×4 or ATV, wire up cool electronic projects in the basement or build awesome websites and databases we would like to meet you. Work experience is great too but we understand there are not a lot of jobs around building trucks so we don’t expect to find people with that specific experience. We just need driven, motivated people, willing to learn and who want to work somewhere unique.

What advice would you give someone who wants to work for your organization?

Most importantly be detailed in communicating to us who you are. Let us know what your interests and personal hobbies and/or projects are. This helps us understand that while you may not have job experience in manufacturing, you have the right stuff to fit into our company with some training. As a small company we really value someone who wants a variety of work responsibilities. You may have good IT skills, but you really want to do more than just sit at a desk for 8 hours a day. We have a great job for you. Spend some time assembling stuff, some time with parts lists, some time with computer based inventory control and even some time adding content to our web site. Are you a fabricator who wants to do more than just weld for 8 hours a day?  Maybe you like to work on cars but have no job experience in that area.  We have a job for you constructing truck cabs and pickup boxes.  Are you an entry level mechanic who wants to do more than auto shop work? We have a job for you building a future in electric vehicles. If you are not great at communicating this in a resume just say so and we can meet and talk about it. We don’t want to miss out on a great candidate because of a brief resume.

Do you anticipate hiring in the next 6 months? If so for what types of positions?

Yes we are currently hiring people to help build our vehicles and grow into greater responsibility within our company. The positions will be adapted to suit the person but will involve assembling mechanical parts, installing automotive electrical components, and may involve many other responsibilities depending on the aptitude and interest of the employee.

What is the best way for someone to apply if they are interested in working for your organization?

The best way to apply is to email a resume to todd@canev.com

Sunrise Ridge Waterfront Resort – April 2018

Tell us about your business/organization and what makes you stand out as an employer?

We are a condominium style, fractionally owned resort that rents studio, 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom and 3 bedroom units on a short term basis for our owners. The units are a modern, west coast style, with a very warm and inviting feel. Truly a “home away from home”. We are part of a larger Management Company “True Key Hotels and Resorts”, which manages 7 luxury resorts and 2 Golf Courses throughout BC. This company believes very strongly in treating their team right, offers some good benefits, and take great pride in promoting from within.

How many employees do you have?

This varies throughout the season, but would be approximately 16 through the slower season, and would typically go up to about 25 during the busy times.

What do you look for in a new employee?

The very nature of the business requires flexibility for scheduling. Reliability, and being a good “team” player are what we look for first. Because of having a small team, it is imperative that we all get along (at least at work), and are willing to help wherever and whenever possible.

What advice would you give someone who wants to work for your organization?

Be a team player, prepare to have fun at work and keep drama to a minimum. Be ambitious and dedicate your time to providing the best customer service possible, no matter what your position. Be warm, friendly but professional.

Do you anticipate hiring in the next 6 months? If so for what types of positions?

Yes, in Housekeeping and Guest Services.

What is the best way for someone to apply if they are interested in working for your organization?

We prefer 1 of 2 ways for applying. Please feel free to come into the office and drop off a resume so we can meet you face to face, or if job positions are available, you can see them on the website: www.truekeyhotelsandresorts.com
